About William Nixon:
Having had a successful 4 years in architectural education at Strathclyde University I have obtained an award for ‘outstanding achievement’ from the Glasgow institute of Architects (GIA) as part of a collective. Through my passion for architecture, I have obtained key skills including a creative and innovative approach to problem solving and decision making and great time management. I have also been grateful to be a volunteer for Cancer Research UK which has allowed me to enhance my ability to work within a team to provide maximum customer satisfaction while supporting a great cause. My passionate and caring nature has also led me to become self employed as a dog-sitter.

Day to day tasks involved in volunteering in the Cancer Research shop on Queen Street, Glasgow, mainly encapsulated the support in running of a retail shop. Tasks included: assisting with processing stock, including sorting, steaming, and hanging of donated items. There was also a need to assist and serve customers to a high standard while operating the till and making sure the shop floor was tidy and presentable.

Self- Employed | Dog-Sitter / Walker
February 2017 – Present
Key responsibilities of looking after a dog included providing food and water, grooming, taking the dogs to vet appointments, administrating medicine, taking the dogs out for a walk, providing companionship, and most importantly ensuring their health and safety was maintained.

Drum Shop Glasgow | Occasional Instrument Delivery
August 2015 - September 2017
When delivering the instruments in the van additional care had to be taken to make sure the instruments got from point A to point B undamaged and on time. This involved early mornings or later working nights to ensure the instruments were collected and delivered time specifically to meet the client’s needs.
Skills developed
- Being reliable and on time.
- How to handle and transport large instruments.
- Attention to detail making sure all items are collected and delivered.
- Being able to safely pack the instruments in to the van on larger delivery.
