About Yemisi Obajemu:
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I have several years of experience in medical profession, in which I have developed skill sets that have enabled me to perform my duties efficiently and effectively.
Over the years, I have developed comprehensive skills in the assessment, admission, discharges of patients, medication administration, both orally and intramuscularly.
Furthermore, my placement experiences afforded me the opportunity to learn and enhance various skills. For instance, while at the community mental health team (CMHT) Maidenhead, I had the privilege to assess patients in their homes and follow through their nursing care by supporting in the administration of medications, depot injections and general nursing care as required, including supporting clients in Clozapine clinic, such as checking their weight, reading their vital signs before the collection of their medication. In addition, at the psychological medicine department, I had the opportunity to support in the assessment and discharges of patients, where I independently carried out the assessment of patients and Rio documentations.
Similarly, at the memory clinic and older people’s home treatment team in Slough, I was privileged to assess patients mental health capacity, documentation of risk assessments, care planning, clustering, attending care review meetings, telephone follow up calls, home visiting, and administration of medications including intramuscular depot injections. Moreover, I have worked in various acute mental health wards through the NHS professionals, and NHS TRUST, carrying out observations, admissions, discharges, and general support for patients in the ward. My ward experience is further reinforced by my placement at Daisy Ward and opting-in to work with the NHS due to Covid-19 pandemic. I worked judiciously all through the Covid pandemic period. In Daisy ward prospect park hospital, I have carried out patients’ observations, admissions, discharges, risk assessment update, care planning, oral and intramuscular medication administration. I have prepared a care plan to support a pregnant patient in mental hospital setting and she delivered safely, without issues. Also, I have participated in space group sessions and contributed to multidisciplinary team meetings and discharge meetings. I have carried out several blood sugar test, urine tests for infection detection, urine drug screening tests (UDS) and Covid-19 swabs, for analysis. In addition, I have prepared task allocation during some of my shifts and carried out handover to the next shift.
While discharging my duty of care, I demonstrate confidence, and confidentiality at work.
I set smart goals that are consistent with the organisation policies and
procedures, I commit myself to it, and work towards achieving it. I am ambitious,
always in search of opportunities for development to improve in practice and
achieve greatness through career development. I express motivation with great
passion to render care services to people who are mentally or physically unwell, especially in the comfort of their homes, as this do enhance their recovery and
wellbeing. In my previous jobs and placement period, I demonstrated empathy for
patients in their distress period, creating time to be with the patients, engaging
and distracting them from negative thoughts until they get well and back to the
community happy.
I am caring and compassionate, I thrive to embrace interpersonal relationships
with patients, which allows me to achieve my goals while carrying out my tasks with patients. For instance, with the skills I have acquired over the years, I am able
to convince patients who are agitated to take their medication or meals by
motivating and spending time with them. Furthermore, with confidence, I have
administered injections to various patients who are unsettled, in my role as a mental health nurse at the moment.
Also, on one occasion,
while at a duty post, a patient was caught smoking in his room. The members of staff
carried out a search in his room and a packet of cigarette was found hidden at the
corner of his chair, with piles of clothes which he used to cover it. The patient
became furious because his cigarette was taken from him, although, it was given back to him
after a while. He carried his bag and was insistent on leaving the ward. I was
able to use effective communication skill to reverse his intention. Eventually he
was happy, and I felt fulfilled.
In addition, with my counselling experience, I volunteer with various charity organisations, rendering quality
services to support people's wellbeing within my community.
Moreover, during my Preceptorship period in Prospect Park Mental health Hospital Reading, I created a poster titled NHS A-Z of Care tips, which was adopted in my work place- NHS Trust. This is beneficial to care staff and patients and I can also introduce this to care settings who are interested.
I have a registered Agency for Care called Zennith Care LTD. We are able to supply support workers and reputable nurses who will render daily support to clients in the comfort of their homes, and supply support to clients with general and mental health issues in the community and care settings.
I am an author of the book titled “Tips on Healthy living” and a relationship book titled “Essence” available on Amazon.
I strongly believe that, if given the opportunity to bring my experience to bear in this role, I will endeavour to live up to the lofty expectations of my employer.
