Job Summary
Moog is looking to recruit a Machine Shop Team Leader at our Military Aircraft Group site in Wolverhampton. This role will accommodate process improvement, primarily focusing on Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Lean (SQCDL)

The position is primarily a supervisory role but will also require a 'hands-on' approach.

This role provides leadership, direction, and support to members of the team and its associated customers and suppliers.


The role will encompass cell design and section layout within the machine shop, to optimise flow, reduce lead times and facilitate lowest-cost manufacture, whilst improving quality and ensuring adherence to all safety requirements.

The position is practically based and reports directly to the relevant Manufacturing Manager for the achievement of cell/departmental objectives.


Providing leadership to the cell team, promoting lean activities, and providing technical/ logistics liaison are key elements of the job.


Duties and responsibilities
The proposed duties (although not an exhaustive list) fall broadly into two main categories: Leadership and Lean.


Leadership

  • Day to day running of the relevant team.
  • Understanding of specific KPIs.
  • Assisting Cell teams to achieve Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Lean targets.
  • Driving productivity and throughput, understanding, and influencing Lead time adherence and dropoff rate.
  • Line balancing, identifying, and eliminating bottlenecks.
  • Understanding the use of relevant MOPS.
  • Allocating work within the team (as identified by Cell Planner) and achieving OTIF.
  • Liaising with the Cell Planner and following through with recovery plans.
  • Assisting manpower planning in line with schedule demands including planning capacity through holiday, sickness, and absenteeism periods, etc.
  • Coordinating with the Manufacturing Manager on the requirement for overtime.
  • Working with external suppliers regarding the purchase of lowvalue consumables.
  • Main Job Summary training and improving teamwork and motivation.
  • Assisting the Cell team to improve quality (NC analysis, calibration, root cause analysis).
  • Providing a single point of contact for reporting the status of the cell to the relevant Manufacturing Manager.
  • Assisting health and safety audits and ensuring compliance with appropriate safety procedures.
  • ERP system knowledge preferred SAP/Solumina.

LEAN

  • Driving change in support of company objectives.
  • Implementing singlepiece flow where applicable.
  • Liaising with Manufacturing Managers, Cell Planners, Manufacturing Engineers, and other relevant personnel on lean objectives.
  • Facilitating cell improvement to include becoming the "Lean Champion" for the specified area.
  • Training (or arranging for training) of team members and themselves to a level of skills consistent with the company's requirements.
  • Assisting the cell team in formulating investment requirements and justification.
  • Encouraging workplace pride and good housekeeping standards, aligned with 5S principles.
  • Initiating the design and provision of simple tooling predominately aimed at setting up reduction.
  • Process waste reduction.
