THE ROLE
The Data Management Lead is a hands-on technical role, leading a small team of analysts.

Reporting to the Enterprise Data Manager and working closely with other IT functions to deliver appropriate data services to the business.

Data management is a rapidlyevolving and maturing area for SGN and so gives the role holder a fantastic opportunity to develop new data practices using a cloud-enabled data management tool Talend, and influence how data management practices are developed in SGN.


The purpose of the Data Management Team is to deliver value across the whole business enterprise in line with SGN's data strategy and industry-driven digitalisation transformation by managing data in line with mandated best practice guidelines.

The DataManagement Team are developing new technical solutions that support the business to meet their responsibilities as data owners, data stewards, data creators and data users, within the Data Management Framework.


Key responsibilities will include;

  • Lead a team of data management analysts to shape the integration of the Talend data management tooling into new and existing data management processes.
  • Identify opportunities to use Talend to drive business benefits through the creation of new data services within SGN.
  • Promote a strong data culture to deliver business value and meet regulatory expectations.
  • Support the Enterprise Data Manager in shaping processes, policies, procedures and technical standards for data management.
  • Lead the configuration, administration and management of SGN's Enterprise Data Catalogue.
  • Support Data Architecture in developing new data management capability and processes.
  • Provide technical liaison with IT services providers for connections to new data source systems.
  • Drive best practice to ensure all development work undertaken is delivered with the appropriate governance and controls for the complexity and scale of the work. Ensuring that processes are fit for purpose and do not become bureaucratic.
  • Liaise with the SGN service delivery teams and Talend Support teams on managing and maintaining Talend metadata harvesting engines and software patches, updates and resolve defects.
  • Support the business adoption of data management tooling by collaborating with data management business lead, and business stakeholders to define data requirements and establish business priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data quality by shaping the development of DQ measurement, analysis, reporting, and data cleansing using SGN's data management platform Talend.
  • Support the training and upskilling of developers within the Data Management Team
  • Be an ambassador for development of data services within SGN in line with data best practise principles.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Essential;

  • Data practitioner with a minimum of 5 years technical/IT experience in database development or other data management discipline within a mature data environment
  • People management experience, as a line manager and workload manager
  • Strong technical competency and knowledge of the following technologies/disciplines:
  • ETL/ELT knowledge
  • Data engineering knowledge
  • Data management platforms
  • Database programming languages
  • Metadata Management
  • Cloudbased data platforms
  • Data architecture principles
  • Information security
  • ITIL standards e.g. for change and incident management
  • Managing multiple stakeholder requirements
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and simply to stakeholders
  • Delivering solutions within a software development lifecycle
  • Incident & request management processes and workflow
  • Delivering technical components within a change management framework, such as requirement analysis and technical impact assessment.
  • Understanding of how to manage data risk through compliance with legal and regulatory compliance
  • Understanding of the components of a data management framework.
  • Strong problemsolving skills with an inquiring mindset

Desirable;

  • Working with a variety of ETL/ELT tools
  • Experience of implementing data engineering best practise
  • Delivering results in collaboration with indirect resources and 3rd parties
  • Experience in both agile and waterfall project methodologies
  • Developing problem solving capabilities in others
  • Embedding a data management framework by educating stakeholders in data management policies, tools, techniques, and methods
  • Experience of working in a regulated sector
  • Database management/administration
  • Experience of developing business case documentation for change delivery
