    XEIAD are a part of the BES Group and are the largest provider of civil infrastructure inspections in the UK.

    Main Purpose


    Reporting directly into the Head of Contract Management, the Senior Contract Manager is responsible for the Contract Management function within the business.

    Ensure that the effective management of commercial contracts and operational cost control functions are maintained.

    Support the review, development and implementation of defined processes, systems and people to facilitate strong contract management behaviours and to minimise contract risk.


    Working primarily with NEC3/4 and Network Rail contracts, manage the Compensation Event and Early Warning processes across the business ensuring that all contractual requirements are met.

    Ensure that processes are developed and maintained to ensure that all permitted contractual allowances are recovered. Lead on client negotiations and ensure that any leakage is minimised.


    Support pre-contract activities including contract reviews and contract negotiations to mitigate commercial/legal risk to the business and to optimise margin potential.

    Build strong relationships with Group Legal and Group Pricing teams.

    Build effective relationships with colleagues throughout the BES Group as well as with suppliers and clients. Undertake line management duties for a small team of direct reports including designation of functional and performance responsibilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Promote positive contract management behaviours across the operational and planning teams to optimise gross margin potential and to minimise contract risk

    Manage project change control, contract management and risk mitigation with colleagues, clients and suppliers. Lead on the Early Warning and Compensation Event process minimising any leakage.

    Work with the Estimating Team at an early stage to support the development and management of Project Risk Registers.

    Review, develop and implement contract management control measures ensuring that all processes are followed effectively.


    Support internal commercial audits and manage all contract management non-conformities including liaison with others and implementation of lessons learned processes.


    At pre-contract stage, review client contracts highlighting any risks and provide representation for pre-contract negotiations ensuring that an optimal position is reached for all parties.

    Ensure a culture where Health and Safety is the No 1 priority for the team, fully adopting the BES Group policies, procedures, resources and guidance in all commercial decisions.

    Build strong contract management competence within the team leading to high levels of team self-sufficiency.


    Manage the performance procedures of the team, with HR support, and ensure a thorough performance management process is in place and enforced.

    Monitor and manage the team's work output against target and drive productivity of each individual and the team.

    Customers / External Stakeholders


    To engage professionally with clients to agree, and where appropriate negotiate, on contractual matters including contract change, early warnings and compensation events.

    To support supply chain management as lead POC for designated strategic accounts where appropriate.

    To work closely with Group Sales and Operational Teams to manage client relationships

    Essential Qualifications & Skills

    Level 5/6 qualification (or equivalent) in Legal / Quantity Surveying / Project Finance

    Chartered Member of relevant Institution (e.g. RICS) desirable

    UK Driving licence

    5+ years in a senior Contract Management position

    Managing commercial contracts with a minimum £10M commercial responsibility

    Strong legal contract knowledge and application (specifically NEC3/4 and NR3/NR4)

    Development and implementation of contract management processes

    Contract negotiation at both pre and post contract award
