Job description:


  • We are a new realtime data (RTD) team in the Net Zero Domestic Directorate. This is one of the most exciting policy and delivery areas in the department and one of the biggest contributors across Government to delivering on net zero by 2050. The group will invest around £4 billion over the next 3 years in energy efficiency and decarbonising heat measures across the UK's 30 million homes, businesses, and public sector buildings.
  • We are looking for people with the drive, skills, and passion to unlock the value in our data. This role will be at the forefront of the move towards using real time data across the Directorate and Department.
  • This role is largely operational facing and involves building close relationships with operations colleagues to drive analysis that will inform decisions made by ministers, senior leaders or frontline operations. This role could involve a wide range of work from quick analysis to answer a single data question, to building larger models underpinning decisions on spending or legislation, enabling decision makers to make better informed judgements. There will be a strong emphasis and expectation on continual professional development. If you have excellent problemsolving skills and ability to act on own initiative, with curiosity and desire to help unlock the value of and demystify the assumed complexities of data to improve the lives of our customer, reflect the communities we serve, and develop and deliver inclusive policy we would like to hear from you.

Person specification:


  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • Recognising and exploiting business opportunities to ensure more efficient and effective performance of schemes. You will explore new ways of conducting business and organisational processes, this will include appropriate approaches for data integration and migration including use of external data sets.
  • Identify the narrative or any overarching stories developing in your products and communicate these using briefings and visualisation.
  • Data Engineering: building the data you and others need in a timely and reproducible manner, developing and improving tools, resources and processes that enable the best use of our data.
  • Create optimal data led designs through iterative processes, aligning user needs with organisational objectives and system requirements.
  • Construct a strong evidence base for inflight operational based decisions. This work involves looking at data both in a qualitative and quantitative sense and establishing which are best to use to evidence policy decisions.
  • Effectively identify and collaborate with partners and analysts with the relevant skillsets for tasks as well as adapting these workflows should problems arise
  • Analyse, interpret, and present data both visually and verbally in a compelling way for very senior audiences
