Age International is the international arm of Age UK, the UK member of the HelpAge global network and a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

This is an exciting time to be joining a small but mighty team as
Head of Communications and Campaigns at Age International.

We have a refreshed strategy and investment to build a new public campaigning function to work alongside our more established communications staff.


This senior leadership role is a great opportunity to showcase your strategic skills and people management, as well as be the brand champion for the organisation.


Your role is to bring energy and vision to Age International's high-performing team and as a member ofthe Age International Senior Leadership Team to lead the organisation's work, reporting on this to Age International's Board of Trustees.


As the
Head of Communications and Campaigns, you will be overseeing communications across a range of issues and channels such as media, PR and digital including for our emergency humanitarian work, as a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee and encouraging beneficial collaboration with our key partners Age UK and HelpAge International.


You will be ensuring strong cross-organisational collaboration with the Age International Policy and Influencing team and the Individual Giving team to drive motivating public campaigns to help create political change, raise Age International's profile, and build our UK supporter base.


We are looking for someone who can bring strong experience in communications and public campaigns, along with energy, clear thinking and a collaborative way of working.

We offer hybrid working from our offices in the City of London with occasional travel to event or internationally.


Must haves:

  • Welldeveloped leadership, strategy development, motivational and change management skills.
  • A collaborative working style with the ability to build strong working relationships across internal teams and partner organisations.
  • Experience of working in a comparable role, within a multifaceted charitable organisation at a senior level.
  • A strong background in communications and/or public campaigns to UK audiences.
  • Demonstrable success in raising organisational profile in a competitive market based on a strong background in communications/campaigns strategy, implementation, and monitoring, covering both external and internal communications, through traditional and digital channels.
  • Experience of leading a department and managing a staff team and budget.
  • Excellent understanding of the external political and communications (media and digital) environment in the UK.
  • The confidence and skill to be a media spokesperson and external representative for the organisation.
  • Understanding of relevant legal, data and governance and compliance obligations.
  • Strong listening, persuasion, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning, management and prioritisation skills including the ability to achieve goals against tight deadlines and the flexibility to respond effectively and creatively to unplanned demands.

Great to haves:


  • Experience of working in a networked organisation or complex organisational ecosystem.
  • Experience of strengthening organisational approaches to gender mainstreaming.
  • Knowledge of ageing issues and/or international development.
