Job summary:

Cottesmore Station Kendrew Barracks provides firm base support to enable units to deploy on operations.

The team delivers a whole range of support activities from facilities management, supporting infrastructure projects, auditing contract delivery, supporting Industry Partners and the security of our people.

The team is at the forefront of the drive to improve the lived experience.

The delivery of multiple infrastructure projects in the coming months and years provides the team with an exciting opportunity to shape how the estate will develop.

The team provides life support to multiple units and organisations on the biggest retained army site in the East Midlands, and we are looking to expand our team.


The Station Quartermaster (QM) is responsible to the Head of Establishment (HoE) for statutory and compliance to meet with legal, policy and contractual obligations, specifically regarding Health and Safety, Environmental Protection, Financial management and Contractor management.

Experience of logistics management, stores management and infrastructure management are desirable due to the legislative and compliance requirements delegated by the HoE.

There is a requirement to attend the All-Arms Quartermaster course within the first 12 months on starting in role, if not already qualified.

The QM is a business-critical post providing a safe place to live and work, and that the Station functions across all areas of delivery improve the lived experience of the workforce.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


The Station QM is a customer facing role with areas of responsibility for providing assurance across the provision of stores and equipment and telecommunications functions requiring the knowledge and expertise to ensure consistent delivery in support of the units and Industry Partners.

The role requires excellent communication skills to enable the liaison and management of a large diverse set of collaborators and customers.

The QM duties are wide ranging, and the list below provides the main areas of responsibility, but includes Project Management, Leading & Managing Change, Audit, Business Management & Improvement, Estate, Environment and Sustainability Management.

Responsible for and advising the HoE on all provision of stores and equipment matters in Cottesmore Station.


The management and control of all Station Site Assets and building moves, authorised by the HoE, within the technical area and the supply of accommodation stores.


Be responsible for the management of Station facilities and services ensuring they meet the needs of the customer, dealing with any complaints or changes, including monitoring of the soft facility related contracts.


Liaison with Industry Partners attending meetings on behalf of the Head of Establishment prioritising works in support of the Estate Management Plan.


Processing all works requests and Statement of Requirements from all units on Station prioritising spend within financial limits approved by the Station Commandant.


Responsible for the management of all Health, Safety, Fire, Environment, Utilities Management and Environmental matters on behalf of Head of Establishment.

Organise and Chair meetings with all station Quartermaster lodger units and/or heads of departments. Attend other meetings as required.


Accountable and responsible for leading all aspects of the management and checks for all Station accounts in accordance with current policy including inspections, boards and actions arising.

Handle/Maintain all contractor activity including access and maintenance activity ensuring outages and repairs are rectified across the Station.

Act as Line Manager for designated staff.


Conduct all reasonable tasks and attend all meetings as requested by the HoE to meet short notice and business critical requirements.
