Work Experience Coach

Contract type:12 month, full-time contract with view to extend.


Post Purpose


Fir Tree CIC is an alternative education provider offering multiple educational programmes to meet the needs of learners with additional or special educational needs.

Fir Tree CIC is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic work experience coach who has a passion to enable young people to achieve their best whilst maintaining high quality learning and assessment within work experience.


The work experience coach is responsible for the support and mentoring of young adults with learning, EBH, SEMH, ADHD or ASC needs between the ages of 14-25 within workplace environments and projects.

The work experience coach is responsible for the support and training of up to 6 students per group in a range of outdoor settings and workplaces.


The learners at Fir Tree CIC need consistency, stability and support in an educational environment that offers practical and vocational learning as well as centre based activities.

The Centre Manager and Work Experience Lead


Responsibilities and Duties

Operational;

  • To lead a work experience group of up to 6 students, liaising with additional staff as required, and to ensure that they develop practical skills and transferrable skills for employment through engaging tasks.
  • To monitor and actively promote student progress.
  • To implement centre policies and procedures.
  • To work with colleagues to formulate individual learning plans and progress reports.
  • To engage with centre open evenings, induction days, to support the ongoing growth and development of the business.
  • To support the Centre Manager in developing reports for learner progression, funding and additional support requests as required.

Pastoral;

  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students' personalised learning.
  • To record student attendance and contribute to students' progress and performance monitoring through their personal tutor.
  • To act as a work experience coach in embedding and reinforcing learners' spiritual, moral and social development.
  • To implement the behaviour management policy throughout the centre so that effective learning can take place.

This process is conducted by each line manager in consultation with the employees reporting directly to him/her. You will have the opportunity and indeed, are expected to participate fully in such discussions.

It is Fir Tree CIC aim that managers and employees will agree proposed changes, however after consultation if agreement is not possible, Fir Tree CIC reserves the right to insist in changes to the job description as deemed necessary.


Desirable Experience;

  • Minimum of three years' experience within the delivery of learning, one year of which must be through working with young adults with SEND.
  • Experience of managing assessment within the learning environment.
  • Experience of working within Awarding Organisations procedures and processes.
  • Experience of Ofsted/Estyn requirements.
  • Experience of dealing with challenging behaviours in young people

Skills, Attributes and Behaviours;

  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage caseloads of learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and highly selfmotivated with a strong initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle changing priorities.
  • Computer literate
  • Keen team player with a desire to engage and work effectively with others.
  • Flexible and approachable attitude with strong problem solving skills.

Other;

  • Willingness to undertake training to aid continuous professional development.
  • Full driving license with access to a vehicle (desirable for D1 licence)
  • Current transferrable DBS is desirable.
