    Clinical Fellow in Specialist Palliative Care Team

    2.0 WTE

    An exciting opportunity has been created for two clinical fellows to join a team of six consultants, two specialty doctors, a specialist trainee and clinical nurse specialists in the Specialist Palliative Care Team (SPCT) at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

    The posts offer the opportunity for successful candidates to work within the hospital advisory SPCT for a fixed term of 12 months. Postholders will be supported by consultants to work across Bristol and Weston hospital sites. Candidates wishing to consider less than full time hours will be welcome to apply and can be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with colleagues.

    The successful candidate must full GMC registration with a current licence to practice and have had adequate clinical experience in the hospital setting.

    Knowledge and Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Full GMC registration, with current licence to practice
  • Completion of recognised Foundation Programme or equivalent
  • Up to date and fit to practise safely
  • Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC Good Medical Practice)
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • No unexplained career gaps
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Desirable criteria

  • Ability to offer clinical opinion and take responsibility for the clinical care of patients
  • Clinical experience assessing and managing patients with palliative care needs
  • Demonstrates experience of provision of palliative care to patients within the hospital setting
  • Developing knowledge and skills relevant to the specialist palliative care of patients with malignant and non-malignant disease
  • Skills and Abilities

    Essential criteria

  • Good spoken and written English that is adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance, with particular reference to palliative medicine
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload
  • Knowledge of the ethics, principles and practice of clinical research
  • Desirable criteria

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
  • Evidence of audit or quality improvement activity related to needs of palliative care patients
  • Evidence of education and supervision of undergraduate medical students and learning outcomes
  • Peer reviewed publications
  • Evidence of poster presentation at medical conferences
  • Qualifications and Training

    Essential criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
  • Registered with GMC with current licence to practice
  • Desirable criteria

  • MRCP
  • Advanced communication skills training
  • Additional teaching courses or qualification
  • Experience working in palliative care setting
  • Commitment to continuing medical education
  • Additional and Aptitudes
