Contract Type - Fixed Term - 36 Months
Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week
The Opportunity:
We seek a 3-year (36 month) postdoctoral research associate to join the research team on the NERC funded project "MicroPI: A micromagnetic approach to absolute palaeointensity determinations". The overall aim of the project is to develop the first absolute non-heating palaeointensity protocol based on micromagnetics. This new protocol will then be used to test the robustness of palaeointensities that claim to identify Inner Core Nucleation at ~0.55 Ga. The successful candidate will be based in the Institute of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Edinburgh, and collaborate closes with palaeomagnetic groups in Imperial and Liverpool Universities.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
Your skills and attributes for success:
A PhD (awarded or submitted) that involves paleo or mineral magnetic studies, or computation science where a strong interest in Earth Sciences can be deomstrated.
Experience of planning and conducting field-work for paleomagnetic sample collection
Expertise in software development, preferable In C++, FORTRAN or PYTHON
Knowledge of machine learning and data analysis.
The ability to communicate complex research results both orally and through written work
To support your application, please ensure you supply a CV and Cover Letter
