Organist and Choir Director Derbyshire

St Matthew's Church, Darley Abbey, Derby seeks an Organist and Choir Director.

We are a friendly church in an attractive village setting with a long-standing Anglican Choral tradition.

The commitment is to play for one Sunday morning service per week, conduct one Choral Evensong per month, to direct and rehearse our robed SATB choir at their weekly practice and to plan worship music in collaboration with the ministry team. There are occasional weekday festival services, and the option of playing for weddings and funerals.

There is a 2-manual pipe organ with detached console by Jonathan Wallace of Henry Groves, installed in 2001, which has been used for recitals by cathedral organists. We have an assistant organist remaining in post.

Our enthusiastic choir has worked with the retiring post holder for many years. We're looking for someone sympathetic to our choral tradition whilst having the vision and enthusiasm to refresh and carry it into the future.

We've used the RSCM Voice for Life training scheme to train previous young choristers, and have a good relationship with two local primary schools.
