    Job overview

    The Oncology unit at the Cancer care Centre are looking for a forward thinking and enthusiastic nurse to join our friendly team in helping us to drive forward the chemotherapy service at the Cancer Care Centre.

    The successful candidate will join an established team who are working hard to develop the services we offer to our patients in the Wigan borough.

    The unit supports our patients with a number of chemotherapy regimens and supportive treatments, if you are interested in joining the team and have the skills that we are looking for then please apply.

    The post is for 30.00 hours per week based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and is a permanent post.

    All candidates will be required to show evidence of their original certificates to the interview panel.

    The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide a high quality service to those patients who attend the Cancer Care Suite for Chemotherapy and other supportive treatments (including complementary therapies).

    On-Call

    Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide a supportive role within the Chemotherapy unit for nursing, medical and clerical staff
  • To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions
  • Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/health care assistant's acting as mentor to designated staff
  • Assist in the general housekeeping duties of the unit
  • Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy
  • Assist medical staff with procedures as necessary
  • Maintains accurate records in keeping with the data protection act

  • Ability to travel between hospital sites
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.

  • 1 years post registration
  • Evidence of experience of nursing cancer patients

  • Experience of chemotherapy administration and/or working in an oncology environment
  • Qualifications

    Essential criteria

  • First Level (adult) registered Nurse.
  • Advanced communication skills or willingness to undertake
  • Educated to degree level (or working towards)

  • Teaching and assessing course
  • Oncology nursing and/or chemotherapy course
  • Employer certification / accreditation badges

    You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
