- Provide operational and strategic leadership to Traffic Management services.

- Be accountable for developing and maintaining effective supplier relationships and contract performance and the delivery of Integrated Transport capital programmes of work.

Within Central Bedfordshire there is significant growth and development, with plans for an additional 20,0000 homes and investments in major assets such as leisure centres, independent living schemes and health care hubs. These inevitably result in an increased demand on the road network.
The Highways service is responsible for keeping Central Bedfordshire's roads and pavements safe. It looks after 1,400 kilometres (869 miles) of roads and manages highways assets through a £250m Term Service Contract. A recent remodelling of the service has identified a need to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Head of Traffic Management to oversee all highway assets.
The Head of Traffic Management is a statutory role and will be responsible for Traffic and Highway Improvements, Traffic Regulation Orders, Street Works and Permitting, Road Safety Improvements and Education, School Crossing Patrollers, Highways Development Management and Highway Agreements and Adoption, S38 & S278.
