    Default job background
    Description
    General Description

System design and architecture definition of Power Feeding Equipment (PFE) product.

The PFE provides the current to power undersea cable systems, generating High Voltage from a low to medium voltage DC supply, with a long system life and high reliability.

    Job Purpose

To assist in defining the architecture required to meet the performance specifications of next generation PFE product.

The successful candidate will develop an understanding of the requirements of the PFE in the context of Submarine Cable Systems powering arrangements (including fault tolerance and redundancy) and determine suitable technologies and methodologies to meet the system requirements.

    Responsibilities include:
Definition of top-level PFE functionality required to meet the operational, environmental and safety requirements of the product.

Flow-down of system requirements to subsystem requirement specifications.

Liaise with subsystem teams in design proposals considering existing design constraints.

Identifying methods and prospective technologies required to meet the feature list and defining blocks for research and development.

Partitioning of functions between hardware and software implementation and assessing the impact of architecture choices (including redundancy/duplication) on the PFE and how they affect:

Reliability / availability / sparing requirements.

    Safety and functionality

    Maintainability / manufacturability

    Cost and size

Generation of performance and reliability budgets from top Level PFE requirements and budget allocation between the PFE's functional blocks down to the Replaceable Unit level.

Preparation of requirement specifications for the various sub-blocks as input to the hardware and software design engineers. Specifications to be structured with verifiable requirements for the validation engineers.

    Tools:
    Simulation (e.g. PSpice, PLECS)

    MS Office tools

    Experience & Qualifications

Degree in Electronics/Electrical/System Engineering or relevant discipline.

Minimum 3 years working in a System Design role or 5 years of working in R&D with some experience of system Design.

Good understanding of software and hardware systems

Experience in writing system design technical specification system & subsystem requirements definition.

High standard of organisation, communication, and technical specification writing
