TENURE - PLEASE NOTE: The appointment is until 31stOctober 2023 in the first instance, at 0.1 WTE.


The laboratory advisor will work closely with NHS FASP and the Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS) to carry out an essential specialist clinical role in the laboratory aspects of Down's syndrome, Edwards' syndrome and Patau's syndrome screening.

This will include expert advice on incidents, peer review and contribution to the delivery of several of the Programme's projects.


The successful appointee will also be responsible for Chairing Programme laboratory advisory groups as required by the Programme Manager for the NHS FASP.


They will have expert laboratory knowledge and professional experience of NHS FASP Down's syndrome, Edwards' syndrome and Patau's syndrome screening and its clinical pathways.


They will report to and be supervised by the NHS FASP Programme Manager, and be responsible to the Director of Vaccinations and Screening.


The post-holder will enable the effective delivery of agreed screening objectives and support the Programme to deliver its S7A objectives.


Key duties include the following:


Provide exceptional leadership and motivational skills with the ability to present views and summarise the collective opinions of the committee in a clear and concise manner.


Bring relevant knowledge, skills and experience to the Committee and contribute to the provision of high quality and well considered advice to NHS England.

This exciting role will require experience of laboratory leadership and expertise, coupled with knowledge of commissioning health services, an ability to operate and thrive in a complex environment, highly developed relationship-building skills and strong experience of developing and implementing effective operating models for the NHS.
