    Overview of the role:

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced buyer to join the team and be responsible for our oil & lubricants strategy both for the OE and OES areas of JCB and to integrate and work with the global teams also sourcing these products... The role requires a candidate who has the capability to maximise the potential with new and existing suppliers to ensure the best cost, quality and service levels are achieved, whilst assessing and mitigating risk.

    This role works closely and liaises with the Product, Operations and Sales Teams within the JCB aftermarket organisation to ensure that product rationalisation, product development and supply chains are developed and managed to meet our customer's demands and expectations.

    Success means understanding what the business needs, working closely with suppliers and gaining credibility with internal customers to deliver the category strategy. In a global organisation like JCB, that's no small feat.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Strategic Development & Execution:

    § Establishes ways to identify and quantify opportunities to reduce the cost of products and services for each category area.

    § Awareness of technological and market changes which can result in delivering total cost improvements and implement best practice.

    § Liaise with stakeholders assessing business requirements to ensure that they can deliver sourcing strategy plans.

    § Deliver robust implementation plans in line with the sourcing strategy. These plans should support, but not be limited to:

  • Effective early supplier engagement.
  • Cost Saving projects
  • Tendering
  • Contracting
  • Capacity management
  • Supplier performance targets
  • Monitors progress of strategies and modifies in line with the changing business environment.
  • Identify & implement supplier performance management measures and manage these to ensure improvement. (QCRD)
  • Implement the supply contracts and service level agreements with all suppliers in line with the approved strategy.
  • Relationship & Business Integration:

    § Supplier performance reviews.

    § Early supplier engagement activities.

    § Risk reporting & mitigation.

    § Project closure & review.

    § Maps the key stakeholders that need to be established and relationship maintained.

    § Implements and establishes scope, timelines, resources, and milestones required to deliver each category project.

    § Analyses the markets relating to their category and ensures that market analysis is reported and shared.

    § Develops working relationship with key suppliers ensuring that JCB's performance targets are met.

    § Deploy and manage all the Purchasing activity relating to their category. Utilising as appropriate the 'pricing teams' to deliver products on time and in line with business requirements.

    Teamwork & Self Development:

    § Ensure that there is effective communication between all aspects of the supply chain function.

    § Addresses performance issues with supply base relating to their category delivery.

    § Understands the business performance requirements and effectively communicates to the supply base.

    § Provides support to the category managers as required.

    § Drives their personal development.

    Business Management & Coordination:

    § Ensures adherence to and understanding of Purchasing policies and procedures.

    § Act on alerts created from the continuous risk assessment process and to ensure Business Continuity plans are in place with appropriate suppliers.

    § Work effectively their teams and other components of the supply chain, such as operational buying and materials managements to address performance issues with their suppliers where appropriate.

    § Supports the delivery and development of an annual Budgets (CMR).

    About you:

    This is a role where expertise and credibility count. You'll need proven experience of purchasing in an engineering, aftermarket or production environment. Good communication skills and influence to build relationships, within a global and matrix organisation are essential skills for this role. A CIPS/MCIPS/PRINCE2 qualification and/or graduate calibre would certainly be an advantage. You'll need to have the flexibility to travel both in the UK and Overseas in order to support business requirements.
