    An international tobacco company who are committed to the consumer's right to choose are looking for a Public Affairs Director who will be responsible for ensuring that the company's objectives and corporate reputation are best served through the anticipation and assessment of change in the political, fiscal, legislative, and regulatory environment, and for the development and implementation of strategies to minimise risk and optimise the company's competitive position.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Anticipating and assessing UK & EU political, legislative and regulatory developments to anticipate changes or trends in the operating environment that may create commercial risk and/or deliver a competitive advantage
    • Setting engagement strategies, providing strategic insight into the UK & EU political and legislative process
    • Overseeing membership of trade associations, ensuring the company's corporate position is communicated and protected
    • Responsibility for determining political and commercial stakeholder strategies to best advocate corporate fiscal and regulatory positions
    • Leading the excise tax strategy to optimise the company's competitive position
    • Developing AIT programmes, building strong working relationships with relevant organisations
    • Leading the public affairs team and managing external agencies

    Key skills:

    • Strong track record in public affairs, ideally from within a corporate environment
    • A strong understanding of the commercial environment and familiarity with issues faced by multi-national corporations, and the tobacco industry in particular
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of Westminster, Whitehall and devolved administrations
    • Proven influencing and negotiation skills, both internally and externally
    • Experience leading and managing a high performing team
