Overview:

We would like to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to our inclusive and vibrant community.

The successful applicant will work providing one-to-one support to children with special needs as well as working with groups of children across the school.

About the role:


Purpose of your job:


  • To assist and support the Headteacher and Teaching Staff in providing the best learning opportunities and support for an individual or group of children.

Main areas of Responsibility:


  • Preparation of materials and resources as directed by a teacher or external agent (e.g. Educational Psychologist).
  • Helping individual or groups of children across the curriculum.
  • Attend to pupils personal needs, including social, health, hygiene, firstaid and welfare matters.
  • Helping to make assessments and keep records on individual or groups of children as necessary and as directed by the head teacher, class teacher or relevant external agency.
  • Making use of ICT facilities to give opportunities to pupil(s) for whom you have responsibility.
  • Caring for the specific needs of an individual child or group of children and, where necessary, also clearing up and clearing away after such children. This could also include assisting with dressing, toileting, etc as necessary.
  • Attending meetings, annual reviews and case conferences as directed
  • Accompany teachers and pupils on outofschool activities and take responsibility for a group, under the direction of a teacher.
  • Deliver intervention programmes under the direction of the class teacher / Senco.

About you:

This is a job with lots a variety but you will need to be adaptable. You need to have lots of enthusiasm and excellent people skills alongside a warm, caring personality. The ability to communicate effectively with pupils and other staff is essential. Training will be provided.


Knowledge, Experience and Training:


  • Experience of working with children of the relevant age
  • Numeracy and Literacy skills equivalent to NVQ level 2 or GCSE grade C in English and Maths.
  • Understanding of the curricular requirements of the school, these to include statutory requirements.
  • Ability to make effective use of modern technology to support teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and within a team
  • Ability to manage pupils in a classroom.
