    Sensing Change is a team within Adult Social Care, Suffolk County Council. We provide a range of services to people with sight and/or hearing loss throughout Suffolk, which include Vision Rehabilitation, Social Work & Assessment and a Sensory Support Service.

    Sensing Change is a well-established, dedicated and supportive team with lots of experience, enthusiasm and passion for promoting the needs of people with sight and/or hearing loss. We will nurture and develop your existing skills providing additional training when needed in this interesting and specialist area of work.

    Your role and responsibilities

    This is a key role in our Social Work and Assessment Team within the Sensing Change Team, located in Adult Social Care. The main purpose of this role is to work with customers with sight and/or hearing loss to identify and deliver personalised good quality outcomes to the highest standards to support and maximise independence and well-being. The main duties of the role are:

  • to carry out assessment and reviews of people with sight and/or hearing loss and ensure that needs are met
  • work specifically with people with hearing loss to assess for and provide a range of equipment within the home environment
  • offer information, advice, guidance and support to enable people with sight and/or hearing loss to live as independently as possible
  • support individuals, carers and their families, working alongside colleagues and partner organisations when required.
  • You will need

  • basic knowledge of adult social care services
  • experience and understanding of a person centred, enabling approach to working with people to maximise their independence and well-being
  • ability to work as part of a team, be a supportive team member and share ideas, knowledge and creative thinking with colleagues.

    The Sensing Change Team

    Sensing Change is a team of 25 staff, all of whom have a wealth of knowledge and experience and there is always someone available to provide support and share skills. Our main bases are in Ipswich and Lowestoft, but we cover the whole of Suffolk, so this would be flexible.

    We work in a hybrid way, mixing office, community and home working to suit our workload. Our aim is to focus on early intervention and prevention, enabling individuals to maintain and increase their independence, as well as providing longer support where needed.

    We welcome people with a real interest in working in this field and we can provide training, including the opportunity to learn British Sign Language. Our staff have loads of knowledge and experience to pass on to you and will always support you.
