The Head of Data is responsible for creating and evolving the data strategy in accordance with the company and product vision, maintaining team processes and delivery, as well as the overall effectiveness and usability of the company data set used by multiple departments in the company.


What are the key responsibilities of the Head of Data at Orbital?

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy for the organisation, which includes defining data standards, policies and procedures for data management, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations, and promoting a datadriven culture throughout the organisation.
  • Work with product owners and tech leads to ensure products and systems are set up to optimise the delivery of highquality analytics.
  • Manage the company's data infrastructure, including data storage, security, and accessibility.
  • Promote datainformed decision making throughout the company.
  • Partner with finance, commercial, marketing, operations and other departments, to build a full suite of reports, analytics and dashboards that serve as a single source of truth.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of data governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, completeness and integrity, and reduce the risk of data breaches or other security incidents.
  • Manage the data lifecycle, from data acquisition to archiving, ensuring that data is available when needed, and deleted when no longer required.
  • Hire and lead a team of data scientists, analysts and engineers, mandate team OKRs and ensure high quality output from all team members.
  • Support internal data literacy programs to educate teams about the use of data to help make better informed decisions.

What is the scope of accountability for the Head of Data role?

  • Responsible for overseeing the company's data strategy, ensuring the effective use of data to drive datadriven decisionmaking
  • Responsible for managing the data architecture, data governance, and data security

What are the skills & experience that are essential for the Head of Data role?

  • 8+ years of experience in a datarelated role, with at least 3 years of experience in a leadership or management position.
  • Extensive and relevant work experience leading and growing a highperforming Data & Analytics team in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in hiring, onboarding and leading a team of data professionals, specifically Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists.
  • A proven track record of leveraging data to drive business growth.
  • Strong problemsolving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex datarelated challenges

What are the desirable skills & experience that are desirable for the Head of Data role?

  • ELT skills experience in Modern Data Stack
  • Data Ingestion: Stitch/AWS Kinesis/Firehose
  • Data Warehouse: Redshift(preferred)/Snowflake/Big Query (any)
  • Data Transformation: DBT (Data Build Tool) (any)
  • Data Orchestration: Dagster (preferred)/Airflow/Prefect (any)
  • Serverless: AWS Lambda
  • Container Management: AWS ECS
  • DevOps: Github, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CloudFormation

Job Types:

Salary:
£115,000.00-£130,000.00 per year
