    About the role

    Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Finance Manager to join our growing team on our Net Zero Teeside project.

    As a Senior Finance Manager you will be a senior member of the project leadership team, with a significant role to play in building and sustaining the financial control function throughout the project. Member of BB MP Senior Finance team. Working with the Project Director and Commercial Director to define the financial control environment, processes and tools. You will also be required to produce income statement, cash forecasts and balance sheets to BB Head Office

    What you'll be doing

  • Maintain the financial control environment, processes, tools and techniques to
    deliver effective and efficient Financial Controls across the project.
  • Custodian of actual cost (validating correct use of cost and project codes during
    requisitioning, sub-contracting, time sheeting, etc).
  • Production and responsibility of project financials including management accounts, balance sheet and cashflows.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to Head Office adhering to timelines
    (Quarterly fast close, Half-Year, Full Year) requirements. Liaising with Commercial
    team to ensure full understanding of CVR process (including adjustments).
  • Comparing Actual to Budget and latest Forecast according to processes and using tools defined by Head Office.
  • Full responsibility for the annual budget cycle including liaison with Operational and commercial teams to ensure accurate representation of deliverables and
    programme alignment. Construct Budget pack for presentation to Project FinComm and Board.
  • Ownership of the periodic (HY/FY) audit process liaising with respective
    Commercial and Operational teams where necessary.
  • Responsibility and overview of the cost verification team managing the audit of
    suppliers contracted with the Project ensuring mitigation of disallowed costs where possible. Engagement with senior Commercial managers to feedback
    improvements and areas of risk ensuring continuous improvement
  • Provide constructive, independent financial challenge and leadership into the
    construction and operational delivery teams.
  • Be proactive in identifying weak signals and leading indicators of potential issues on the project.
  • Work closely with operational leadership, commercial teams and finance leadership to ensure project progress is appropriately monitored, challenged and reported accurately.
  • Develop insightful financial and non-financial analysis to report on key project
    information.
  • Help drive continuous improvement on the project, utilising the most up to date best practice from the partners.
  • Liaise with teams in Newcastle to ensure all statutory and governance reporting is being made correctly (VAT, CIS, Banking, SC payments)
  • Work with Commercial team to understand, challenge and quantify risks and
    opportunities for inclusion in monthly IRIS risk reports.
  • Supporting the Procurement team in providing analysis and detailed financial due diligence on supply chain where required
  • Who we're looking for

  • The individual should have a strong academic background. Formal accounting
    qualifications desirable but not essential.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and energetic.
  • Experience of both building and leading high performing teams, with
    a willingness to embrace and drive best practice.
  • The successful applicant will be passionate about their work and adaptable. They
    will have strong communication skills and an ability to command respect at all
    levels of the organisation.
  • They must be independent and objective, but commercially astute.
  • Relevant experience gained within a contracting/project environment is preferable
    but not essential.
  • The role may require some travel but will be predominantly based on site
