The Role

Plant Fitter

As someone with a strong mechanical skill set, you've always got your head inside a machine, working on an engine or generally just tinkering with parts... and that's just in your personal life

We're looking for a Plant Fitter who genuinely loves what they do, makes an effort to understand why things happen, gets to the root cause of issues, shares knowledge, and generally does things the right way.
You'll be working for
British Gypsum in
Barrow-Upon-soar. The plaster production plant is the largest and most technologically advanced of its kind in the world.

The site is being heavily invested in, with a major recoveryproject taking place, meaning this is an ideal time to join, and become part of our future plans.

This is a days position, Monday-Friday.


What will I be doing in the role?


Although based mainly within the warehouse performance team, in a mechanical craft role, the truth is you could be asked to work in any part of the plant, meaning there'll be lots of variety to your working day.

Some of the duties include;

  • Mechanical servicing on various equipment, including; pallet chain conveyors, pallet roller conveyors, pallet hoisting elevators and high bay warehouse cranes (33 metres off the ground you'll need a head for heights)
  • Use of the CMMS system to generate and manage your work orders
  • General planned and unplanned maintenance tasks, as well as general mechanical fitting
  • First time repairs, root cause analysis and improvement projects as and when required

  • 23+ years (post qualification) experience in a similar mechanical fitting type role
  • A recognised apprenticeship, or equivalent, linked to mechanical maintenance
  • CMMS experience, and ability to use a variety of electronic systems
  • Machining and welding skills would be advantageous
  • Experience working in an automated warehouse would be ideal, but not a necessity
  • A genuine interest and enthusiasm for what you do
  • Do your hobbies relate?
