We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as a Freedom of Information National Referral Officer.

    About the role

The police service is committed to the principles of transparency, openness and accountability, recognising that they form an essential platform to build trust and confidence in the police service. The National Referral Officer role is focussed upon supporting police forces to respond to their more complex and sensitive Freedom Of Information(FOI) requests by providing them with bespoke written guidance balancing the public interest in accordance with legislation and best practice.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work with colleagues across the police service to ensure their FOI responses are compliant with FOI legislation. Working as part of a small team, the role holder will receive and log requests from forces and conduct relevant internet and police systems research to inform disclosure decisions. Often consultation with senior police portfolio leads and external stakeholders is required to understand the harm associated with releasing information and developing the advice to send to forces.

Full training and support is provided to allow role holders to become subject matter experts and confident in the role.

Success in this role will require solid communication skills, teamwork, keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills.
