    We are working with a Local Authority in the Northamptonshire region looking for a permanent Commercial Lawyer/Senior Lawyer to join their department.

    About the position:


    Commercial Lawyers are expected to undertake the following duties: Provide legal advice in relation to commercial, contracts, procurement, trading and corporate lawTo independently manage and provide advice on a wide range of complex matters.

    To deputise for the Principal Lawyer in their absence and assist in management and supervision of the Commercial Team as required.

    To support the Principal Lawyer in managing the strategic and operational delivery of the Commercial Team and be responsible for the provision of a responsive, high quality and effective legal serviceAbout you:

    The successful Commercial Lawyer will be an admitted Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX of England and Wales with a current practising certificate.

    Good knowledge of commercial law, contract law and procurement legislations and practices are essential.
    You must have a demonstrated ability to work under your own initiative, anticipate challenges and deal with them proactively.

    You must be able to work unsupervised with a flexible approach to teamwork, driven by delivering a high-quality service, and have a positive attitude towards building relationships with the team.

    You must the ability to evaluate information in complex situations and confidently make decisions independently.

    You must also be able to travel to meetings at client offices and to work in the other office locations when necessary.

    It is important that anyone joining the council is committed to these areas of law and can demonstrate the importance of health and safety as well as having the awareness and understanding of equal opportunities and other people's behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs.

    The ability to work under pressure is imperative, be self-motivated, and able to work to deadlines. Previous local authority experience is essential.
