About Us
H4W has been providing support to the women and children of Greenwich for over 40 years. We provide somewhere safe for women and children to live free from abuse.

We advocate on their behalf and provide support at the time when they need it most:
to enablethem to move forward and build new lives.

Our specialist complex needs refuge offers intensive one-to-one support to single women, both with the domestic abuse they have experienced and other needs such as mental health, drug use and alcohol use.

We are currently looking for a dedicated individual to join our Complex Needs Refuge on a permanent, full-time basis working 37.5 hours per week.

The Role

As a DVA Support Worker, you will provide a specialist support and advocacy service for a caseload of up to eight families with complex needs, enabling them to live free from abuse.

Managing new referrals, you'll induct service users, issue occupancy agreements and ensure their safety by conducting risk assessments, safety plans and individual support plans.

You'll support service users to access a range of services including welfare and benefits, healthcare, education or employment, legal services and housing rights.


Additionally, you will:

  • Provide emotional support to women and their children
  • Oversee repairs and maintenance to the refuge
  • Provide resettlement advice
  • Support the development of our service

About You
To be considered as a DVA Support Worker, you will need:

  • Experience of delivering support to vulnerable adults from diverse backgrounds, with mixed abilities and complex needs
  • Experience of undertaking individual assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of developing and delivering support plans
  • Knowledge of strategies to empower service users to address issues of DVA
  • An understanding of local and national approaches to tackling domestic abuse
  • An understanding of Safeguarding principles
  • An understanding of the dynamics of Domestic Abuse
  • The ability to build professional supportive relationships with vulnerable families whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Strong crisis management skills

Ideally, you will have experience of supporting adults with complex needs in a Domestic Violence Abuse (DVA) refuge or a community-based setting.

Other organisations might call this role Domestic Violence and Abuse Support Worker, Complex Needs Support Worker, Women's Refuge Support Worker, or DVA Refuge Support Worker.
