- Conducting best-in-class news gathering and sector research.
- Writing and producing high-quality news articles and other written content, sometimes at speed. Types of content will include News, Features, Interviews, Case Studies, Market Analyses, and Newsletters.
- Producing in-depth qualitative and occasionally quantitative analyses of market events, trends, opportunities, and threats. This will involve working closely with our Lead Analyst, Data journalists, and other journalist colleagues.
- Developing and growing a network of sector contacts, from boardrooms to clinical settings
- Attending events, conferences, and briefings and producing notes and internal reports.
- Updating company documentation and knowledge bases.
- Highlighting and developing new areas and opportunities for coverage.
- Providing analyses and briefings on market conditions, events, and participants.
- EITHER 3 years experience as a journalist OR
- 1 year experience as a journalist and 2 years in a complementary role, e.g. Analyst
- Strong writing ability, evidenced by shareable bylines and/or a portfolio.
- Knowledge of international healthcare business trends and markets is a plus.
- Degree qualified in a relevant field (e.g. Journalism, Communications, Finance, Mathematical Disciplines, Economics, English, Healthcare, Accountancy, etc.)
- Understanding investment strategies and business models is not a prerequisite for this role but is a major advantage.
- Confidence to moderate and conduct public interviews at both in-person and digital events.
- Fluency in English. Some ability in a second or third language is welcomed. We work with a lot of organisations operating in German, French, and Spanish, so B2 and above in any of these languages is a particular plus.
- Well-versed in Qual and Quant analysis.
- Experience overseeing and editing freelance contributions.
- Prior experience in B2B Healthcare or Finance journalism
- 'Wires' experience welcomed – e.g. Reuters, AP
- Experienced in using AP style.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a journalist with previous B2B media experience to join an ambitious and growing business. HBI's core purpose is to report news about the business of health and care services across Europe and beyond. We add unique value to news by looking at it and reporting it, through the lens of what each change in the market means to those who are running businesses or investing in the healthcare services sector.
Reporting M&A activity and deal valuations is a core activity. We also report the likely impact on the sector of developments such, including new legislation, new business models, internationalisation, the macro-economic picture across Europe and within territories, and the evolution of digital technology.
Our core beats are Hospitals, Diagnostics, Elderly Care, Outpatient Services, and Digital Health. We focus on the top European economies, particularly the UK, DACH, France, Benelux, Iberia, Italy, and the Nordics.
The successful applicant will have the chance to report on all of the above to help readers and customers make well-informed business decisions
For this role, we are particularly interested in journalists who also have a background in healthcare or financial service organisations, more specifically funds, family offices, etc. This role may be well suited either to an analyst who has transitioned their career into journalism, or a journalist who has successfully navigated the financial services and/or healthcare segment previously.
The expected salary range for the position is £30,000 – £38,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and skills match.
