    Job summary

    This post is specifically at Yeovil District Hospital and offers the opportunity to be involved in the education of medical students as part of an already established programme provided by associated Universities.

    Primarily the teaching will be delivered to undergraduates from the University of Bristol Medical School, of which approximately 70 students are placed in the acute hospital.

    This post is a bespoke opportunity for the post holder to progress their academic and educational portfolio whilst having a less than full time commitment. The post holder will be contracted to work full time equivalent

    Main duties of the job

  • You will be integral to the undergraduate medical education team and provide teaching sessions including case-based learning, bedside teaching, clinical skills, and simulation to students from years 2 to 5 in the programme.
  • You will be expected to formatively assess the work and progress of students and provide constructive feedback to students. This will also involve OSCE examinations as well as workplace-based assessments such as case-based discussion, Mini-CEX and clinical skills.
  • This post primarily focuses on providing teaching within the following areas of clinical practice: complex medicine, emergency and acute internal medicine, geriatric medicine, palliative and end of life care, and stroke medicine, However, there is expectation to cross cover the work of other fellows on a collaborative basis.
  • You will act as a mentor for students. Take a role in student pastoral care such as identification of "at risk" students and dysfunctional groups, offering support and referral to appropriate sources of help. You will work closely with consultant tutors, lead CTF for wellbeing and the academy deans in ensuring pastoral care and academic progression of the students.
  • Each post holder will have associate status with the University of Bristol and all offered a Trust Appraisal in keeping with revalidation.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • ALS or equivalent.
  • Desirable

  • Study towards Part 1 or Part 2 of Membership exams (MRCP).
  • Additional degree or equivalent.
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Completion of UK Foundation Programme (FY1/FY2)
  • At least 2 years experience within NHS environments
  • Experience of work at Senior House Officer level in Medical Specialities
  • Desirable

  • Demonstrates working at level of CT1/ST1 level doctor
  • Experience of Geriatric Medicine or Acute Internal Medicine
