About the service
The service assesses, treats and manages both bladder and bowel (continence) problems for children and young people in the community through a multidisciplinary nurse-led approach. The team have a good relationship with local paediatricians which supports the care provided for children and young people. Whilst knowledge of bladder and bowel is desirable full training though formal education and informal within house training is provided.
The service aims to reduce inappropriate/unnecessary referrals to hospital care. The service trains, advises and supports GPs and Children's Health Service staff to enable them to carry out work at the early diagnosis and Tier 1 Continence Care stage. There is a strong relationship between the CYPCCS team and the 0-19 Children's Health Team. The team also provides education and support to schools and the voluntary sector.
About the role
As a Children's Continence Deputy Nurse, you will provide continence interventions, advice or treatment relevant to the child's needs and capability, taking into consideration any specific physical, mental or social needs of the parent/carer to engage with the service as delegated. You will conduct continence assessments and follow an agreed care pathway to ensure effective treatment outcomes. You will offer specialist advice and guidance to the wider Children's Health 0-19 workforce and deputising for the continence lead nurse.
About you
To be considered for this post you will need to be a registered nurse with a current NMC registration; children's continence experience is desirable.
