    Summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a NPD Development Chef to join the team at Cranswick Sutton Fields. Reporting directly to the Innovation Chef for Sutton Fields, with close working relationships with the category, commercial, wider NPD team at Sutton or within retailer teams, technical, process development, purchasing & operations colleagues & key customer contacts

    Main duties include (but not limited to):

  • Influences direction of food safaris / trawls where applicable, by using food and ingredient trends
  • Influence innovation session (in line with the NPD pipeline) by informing team of food trends (cuisine and ingredient) at the kick-off through to paper ideas and product creation with a view to influence the customer brief
  • To work alongside category to translate consumer and market insight into relevant food concepts to inspire the customer at inspiration sessions/that deliver against the brief
  • Challenge & overcome operational and technical 'the status quo' as necessary to push boundaries to deliver new products
  • Drive concept development projects in collaboration with wider NPD team, category, commercial, operations, technical & process development team to influence projects & decision making; attends pre-feasibility meetings where necessary
  • Ensures accurate record keeping in line with the stage and gate process, using the right documents at the right time; within a timely manner and in line with critical path; demonstrating due diligence & preventing non-conformances internally or during audits
  • Supports the NPD team from kitchen creation to factory trial to the point of handover
  • Hold responsibility for the hygiene and food safety standards of the NPD kitchen
  • Requirements, experience and person specification:

  • Commercially aware; creates accurate recipes (in conjunction with technologists) in order to obtain a product costing within the critical path and in line with site costing process. Understands the margin aspirations of site and works with commercial to develop products that meet or exceed these aspirations
  • Educates and inspires the wider NPD and commercial teams with food trends to encourage creative thinking
  • May support process team by being involved in kitchen v factory sign off (either of ingredients or internal trials)
  • Supports NPD technologist with creation of draft QAS for handover
  • Supports driving a strong food culture of the site – from enlightening them with food trends through to attending taste panel to ensure consistent product quality
  • Supports team with requesting/collecting samples off stock for senior management panels/sample requests
  • Regular travel within UK and travel outside the UK may be required.
  • Build experience and knowledge of key management skills e.g. leading & influencing
