    Role Description:

    This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding fire safety consultancy and become an integral part of the Manchester and North-West Fire Engineering Team. As a core member of the team, the applicant will provide a key role in relation to the technical delivery of projects, and provision of technical supervision and support to less experienced staff (such as graduates). Technical delivery will be overseen by Associate/Director level.

    The applicant will have the following primary responsibilities:

    • Providing consultation to clients and building designers on fire safety codes, standards, and guidance.
    • Developing full technical fire safety strategy reports covering all areas of the functional requirements relating to fire safety in the Building Regulations 2010 (B1-B5).
    • Offering fire engineering design and analysis through the design stages of the building development process, ranging from RIBA Stage 2 to RIBA Stage 5. Types of projects worked on include: hospitals, high-rise residential buildings, offices, hotels, distribution warehouses, university research facilities, residential care homes, and others.
    • Advising on external wall fire safety, including assisting in the development of Fire Risk of the External Walls (FRAEW) reports and advising on external wall remediation designs.
    • Communicating with other project members such as architects, engineers, project managers, and Building Control on a regular basis.
    • Assisting the project lead with the management of projects, including advising on project programmes, workstage deadlines, invoicing schedules, etc. to ensure the timely issue of deliverables and invoices for work completed
    • Undertaking Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) assessments using FDS to evaluate the performance of mechanical ventilation systems and to formulate fire-engineered solutions based on accepted fire engineering principles (including BS7974 and BRE guidance) (support and training will be provided by senior members of the team where experience in this area is limited).

    Additional responsibilities of the role may be summarised as follows:

    • Assist in the development of fee proposals.
    • Assist in undertaking administrative work as necessary.

    The primary service delivery of the Fire Engineering Division is as follows:

    • Fire Safety Strategy Design & Development (Fire Strategy, Fire Statement, etc.)
    • External Wall Fire Safety (FRAEW, Remediation, etc.)
    • Fire Engineering Analysis & Assessment (CFD, Evacuation Modelling, etc.)
    • Expert Services (Advisory, Witness, etc.)
    • Fire Safety Audits
    • Peer Review
    • Safety Case

    Skills:

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualities and qualification:

    • Qualification to at least Level 6 (BEng or BSc)
    • Experience working with fire standards including but not limited to ADB, BS9999, BS9991, BS7974, etc. (must have at least 1+ years)
    • Understanding of current and upcoming fire safety legislation and guidance in the UK
    • Technical delivery capability including a good record of successfully delivered fire strategies
    • Experience with managing projects and communicating with other stakeholders on independently on a regularly basis
    • Pro-active and ambitious mindset
    • Excellent English speaking and writing skills
    • Excellent communication and time management skills
    • Ability to work effectively with a team
    • Enthusiasm to develop technical knowledge and skills
    • Experience with external wall fire safety would be preferable
    • Experience with CFD modelling would be preferable
