    SUMMER STUDENT PLACEMENT – PODIATRY

    Band 2 £23,362 - £25,368 per annum

    Plus £1,279 Distant Islands Allowance per annum

    37hrs per week

    The Podiatry service is based in the Western Isles Hospital and provides a service across the whole of the Western Isles. We provide a service to those in hospital and in the community the Podiatry service exists to ensure that the people of the Western Isles can achieve their optimum mobility and independence of movement, with the minimum of pain and disability, enabling them to undertake active and productive lives.

    We require a summer student to assist with some project work and administrative functions. This will include:

  • Data gathering and report writing to assist us with service planning and delivery, e.g. record keeping audit
  • Scoping and delivering the role of Band 2 clinician in carrying out newly diagnosed diabetic foot screening
  • Manufacture of simple insoles
  • Assisting Podiatrists with the review of documents
  • Stock ordering
  • Preparing Health Promotion materials
  • Photocopying, scanning, printing and posting out letters
  • Answering telephone, passing on messages
  • This placement would be suitable for those that

    are studying podiatry or a health-related subject, administration, business or management. You should have excellent communication skills and be confident in taking general enquiries. You will be required to have an eye for detail and be competent using MS office packages. It is essential that you can maintain confidentiality as you will be dealing with sensitive, personal information.

    The hours will be up to 37 hr per week, Monday to Thursday 9am – 5:20pm Friday 9.00am-4.30pm with a 40 minute lunch break, the hours are negotiable. All summer student placements are paid on Band 2 and are for a fixed term period of 3-4 months.

    The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme. This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
