    THE ROLE

    The Back Lot Art Directors will support the delivery of the set construction and development of the scenic works design alongside the wider design team. The role will involve producing and reviewing design information to ensure it meets the brief outlined by the Designers and the editorial vision. The successful candidates will required to have an onsite presence to ensure continuity between drawings and build on site and to dress the set in line with the Designers' brief.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Work primarily to the Designers, also collaborating with other Art Department members & Wider Project team as schedule progresses.

    • Develop elements of the design to levels agreed by Designers.

    • Generate practical solutions in support of project brief and to schedule agreed in advance of manufacture/installation deadlines.

    • Generate accurate scale drawings in support of project design brief given by Designers

    • Contribute towards design briefs to external suppliers and fabricators when necessary.

    • Respond to queries from the construction team to support the build process.

    • Respond to queries from the scenic works team to support the scenic build, ageing treatments and props dressing process.

    • Review and provide feedback on construction design information to ensure it aligns with the editorial vision.

    • Endeavour to ensure design content reflects diverse audiences.

    • Have ability to talk through and present design decisions to a range of stakeholders.

    • Maintain good lines of communication between project, external consultants & main contractor, including the coordination & distribution of relevant design information as agreed with project.

    • Where in the interests of project, be prepared to train project team members.

    • Make significant and creative input to design briefs and deliverables in order to achieve required design results.

    • Work effectively with project team members, maintaining productive professional relationships.

    • Be accountable for the quality of their work and ensure it meets intended purposes.

    Are you the right candidate?


    • Graduate level in art/design subject and/or substantial experience of working on TV productions, within art departments.

    • Portfolio of previous design work demonstrating relevant ability & creativity. Ability to create appropriate, engaging visuals in support of Designers brief.

    • Understanding of styles & eras found in urban environment.

    • Competent user of SketchUp, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Basic/Proficient understanding of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & other Adobe creative suite applications.

    • Working knowledge of maintaining effective database to be used/accessed by authorized others.

    • Proactive approach to design showing initiative and skills required to manage timetabled project tasks to requested level.

    • Ability to read existing project construction elevations & plans.

    • Demonstratable ability to generate working scale drawings/plans & elevations in support of project design information where required, in CAD and manual formats.

    • Set dressing/decoration skills, with practical understanding of timescales required for installation.

    • Capable of delivering different design approaches and styles as appropriate to project brief & budget.
