The post holder will be responsible for ensuring patients referred with suspected head and neck cancer and seen and managed in a timely and appropriate fashion and will support the team in delivering the faster diagnosis standard for head and neck cancer referrals. In addition, they will receive training in the full spectrum of head and neck surgery, with additional opportunities for exposure to skin cancer surgery, and / or endocrine neck surgery, dependant upon their prior experience and training needs. There will also be significant opportunities for research and / or service improvement projects. About us

  • Introduction & Background
  • The Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) department at Epsom and St Helier is one of the largest ENT departments in the region serving a population in excess of 490,000. The department is part of the hub and spoke network for ENT within South West London. The aim is to provide a collaborative and integrated service for South West Thames and the surrounding counties, with links between St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust, Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust, and Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust.

The ENT/head and neck service at Epsom & St Helier has undergone significant expansion in recent years and diagnoses around 100 new head and neck and thyroid cancers per annum. Benign inpatient and diagnostic day case surgery takes place locally at Epsom and cancer surgery takes places at St George's, with the clinicians providing integrated care throughout the patient's pathway from diagnosis to treatment and aftercare surveillance.

The head and neck unit at St George's Hospital performs the full range of complex ablative head and neck surgery, and has a large endocrine neck surgery practice with over 300 thyroid & parathyroid operations performed each year. In addition, the unit is one of few in the UK with a regular robotic head and neck surgery programme.
