We are currently seeking Life Skills Trainers to join our Transport Services that caters to young people with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities residing in Barnet.

The Transport Service is a crucial aspect for many young people within the borough, as we facilitate solutions that enable them to safely access their education daily.

The Life Skills Trainer is a new role which will be a key part in a new provision that is being utilised in-house.

The aim of this new provision is to develop young peoples independence skills and abilities to travel independently.

These are skills that will assist young people in preparing for adulthood and transfer over to their adult stage of life.

The Life Skills Trainer will be responsible for delivering tailored training to young people that use the service. This will include assessing their travel needs and addressing areas which may require additional focus.

The Life Skills Trainers will undertake journeys alongside young people, providing first hand training in real life scenarios whilst undertaking the actual travel route that would be expected if the young person was travelling independently.

You must be prepared to travel as you will be expected to travel within and around the surrounding Borough of Barnet.

This will generally be two trips a day (school run & home run).

Duties will mainly be undertaken during term times. However, there may be exceptional cases where duties may need to be undertaken during half term. For example, a young person that requires additional support so must travel at times that is quieter. Shifts will differentiate, in line with the different educational establishments operating times and the transport services operational needs.

During periods where there are no trainers the Life Skills Trainer will be expected to assist with general passenger assistant duties for young people that travel on existing home to school transport.
