    We have an exciting opportunity for a Portfolio Manager to join the Africa Tech Festival event team. You'll work in one of the world's most diverse and rapidly developing tech markets to deliver the continent's biggest and best technology event.

    The Africa Tech Festival team are on an exciting journey to accelerate the financial growth and content breadth on the event, with ambitious targets to match.

    As Portfolio Manager, you'll lead AfricaCom, the largest and longest running part of Africa Tech Festival, and be responsible for developing and growing the product over the coming years.

    We're looking for an entrepreneurial, strategic and confident individual to work closely with the Event Director and produce content that drives the conversation on leveraging technology for socioeconomic development and business excellence. You'll create strategic goals, explore new opportunities and launches, and ensure the team is taken on the journey to deliver them.

    Our audience is a young, diverse mix of 54 countries – each with its unique tech and start-up ecosystem, cultures, and challenges – you'll be expected to dive in and become embedded with this vibrant, fast-paced and rewarding market.

    You'll work with national government and regulators, global tech giants, telcos, connectivity and infrastructure builders, charities, NGOs, and some of the world's biggest brands to explore how tech is helping address Africa's most pressing challenges.

    You'll have the opportunity to work on one of Informa Tech's largest events in an experienced and motivated team during a period of increased investment, backed by a global FTSE 100 company.

    This Portfolio Manager role is a key part of the next step in our evolution to grow and develop an event that unites a continent's tech ecosystem around world-class, actionable content and features. You'll meet senior industry figures on a peer basis, and travel internationally.

    You'll be responsible for ensuring continued financial growth and product development in an increasingly competitive technology events market on the African continent. Are you ready for the challenge?

    Key competencies & responsibilities

    • Strategy & planning: Working closely with the Event Director, you'll be responsible for creating and actioning the growth strategy for the AfricaCom feature in 2024 and beyond. This will involve creating detailed and viable development plans to brief the team around responsibilities, timelines and deadlines.
    • Project management: You'll ensure all teams – Sales, Marketing, VIP, Operations, & Production – are working together optimally to ensure excellence in delivery through prioritisation, effective internal communication, motivation, and flexibility.
    • Content creation: As content lead forAfricaCom, you'll own the whole process of developing its 5-6 agendas and 3-4 key features each year. This will entail desk research, in-market theme validation, session creation, speaker recruitment and briefing through to post-show analysis.
    • Research & writing excellence: An ability to research and write content for our diverse range of channels is essential – from agendas and website copy to CEO and senior government invites, you'll need excellent writing skills to tailor tone of voice for our different audiences.
    • Communication skills: You'll also need exceptional verbal communication skills. As well as regular client, speaker & partner recruitment calls, you'll regularly update the team on agenda updates, product launches, challenges, and more to ensure they're engaged and motivated.
    • Commercial mindset: You'll work with the Sales and Sponsorship team to ensure your content is market-specific, actionable and commercially viable. As well as creating the content, you'll help map out the client ecosystem to highlight key clients.
    • Creativity: You'll be part of a team tasked with aggressive growth targets over the next few years. That will require exceptional creativity and the ability to launch exciting new features and socials, evolve our content, and think outside the box in everything you do.
    • Driven self-starter: We need someone with the initiative and drive to hit the ground running – to inspire and direct the growth of the AfricaCom. You'll be given all the support you need but be expected to highlight and exploit opportunities to develop the product, yourself and the team.
    • International travel: You'll have the opportunity to travel internationally regularly to meet clients, partners and speakers as the face of AfricaCom. This will, on average, comprise twice quarterly trips to South Africa and Europe, for 3-5 days at a time.

    • You'll have at least 4 years' experience in content, event or editorial production.
    • You'll have anentrepreneurial, intelligent, positive and hard-working attitude.
    • You'll have stronganalytical research and writing skills that enable you to build an understanding in the various tech, telecoms, and media ecosystems you will be working in.
    • You'll have experience of working in a fast-paced and dynamic where we research, test and launch new products each year.
    • You will also be creative with strongself-drive, project management skills.
    • You'll love working as part of a diverse and close-knit team as well as driving your own work and development.
    • You'll enjoy working with senior business professionals: often the heads of their department,in technical areas that you are unlikely to have prior experience of.
