    Commercial Contracts Lawyer

    Location: London

    Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Benefits

    WFH: 3 days office based

    Contract: 10-12 month maternity cover

    Grade: Fixed Term Contract

    Reporting to: Head of Legal

    Direct Reports: 1 direct report

    Role Overview:

    12-month fixed term contract (maternity cover) for a leading pensions scheme provider, reporting to the Head of Legal. As the Commercial Contracts Lawyer you will deal with issues relating to business transactions, as well as take responsibility for the negotiation of a wide variety of agreements and documents with third parties and suppliers.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Provide legal advisory services to the business
    • Liaising and working together with external contractors and oversight and management of one direct report
    • Support the evaluation of new business partnerships with vendors and subcontractors
    • Examine the legal issues related to new services
    • Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial legal agreements on behalf of the company including templates, contracts, side letters, non-disclosure, consulting, service, recruitment agency agreements, software as a service agreements, IT contracts, outsourcing agreements, general terms and conditions, data protection, IP and commercial due diligence
    • Review and negotiate contracts from company's suppliers, customers and parties
    • Working from in-house templates
    • Oversee the company's policy/protocols/guidance on commercial legal matters
    • Deliver solutions that are commercially pragmatic, legally robust, and always in tune with our client's real objectives
    • Protect and mitigate the company against contract risk
    • Guide and advice management to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
    • Ensure consistency of contract terms with company policies and strategy

    Person Specification:

    Essential knowledge, skills & experience:

    • A qualified lawyer in the UK or a similar qualification
    • A good understanding of the UK law and legal system
    • At least 4 years' PQE gained within an in-house commercial team
    • Proficiency in the review, drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts essential, both customer and supplier-side

    Desirable knowledge, skills & experience:

    • Financial services industry experience desirable
    • Knowledge of Data Protection Laws and Regulations
    • Commercial awareness - possessing knowledge of current developments in local, national and world business, particularly any issues that impact the company
    • Pragmatic, commercial-minded approach to contract negotiation, with a balance of risk mitigation for the business
    • Experience of tenders and supply chains would be useful for this role
