    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced pharmacist to join and lead our Outpatient Pharmacy Service. The service is operated by SDH Developments Ltd, which is a limited company wholly owned by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. The service has been running since 2013.

    The Outpatient Pharmacy Service provides medicines to all outpatients seen at Torbay Hospital and those seen at other off-site locations. Currently the service dispenses approximately 80,000 items per annum with a value of more than £10m. These medicines are given directly to patients or are transported to the patients' home via the SDH delivery service.

    The Superintendent Pharmacist is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of the Outpatient Pharmacy Service in line with the standards described by the GPhC. The Superintendent Pharmacist reports to the Trust Director of Pharmacy, who is also the Managing Director of SDH Developments Ltd.

    This is a fantastic opportunity to join our dedicated team working within an automated, modern, purpose-built facility at Torbay Hospital. The team is supported by specialist clinical pharmacists in those areas which require specialist knowledge, such as paediatrics, oncology and haematology. The superintendent Pharmacist is a member of the SDH Management Group, the SDH Developments Ltd Board and the Trust Pharmacy Management Group.

    Main duties of the job

    The Superintendent Pharmacist is responsible for delivering a high quality and efficient pharmacy service to outpatients attending the Trust's outpatients department in line with the principles published by the GPhC.

    SDH Developments Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and is responsible for providing Outpatient Pharmacy Services to Trust Outpatients.

  • To manage and coordinate a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers and counter assistants in delivering an efficient outpatient dispensing service to outpatients attending Torbay Hospital and surrounding Community Hospitals.
  • To be responsible for the production and updating of any policies and procedures necessary to maintain compliance with General Pharmaceutical Council and Medicines Act requirements.
  • To ensure that all policies and procedures relating to the requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Medicines Act are observed by all staff at all times.
  • To ensure that the Pharmacy is managed effectively and that the work carried out is compliant with the requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council Code of Ethics.
  • To ensure that there are sufficient resources available within the subsidiary company to guarantee compliance with the legal and professional standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
