    Grade 6 - £49,498 - £61,269. Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

    Working 36.5 hours per week

    About Us

    We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health Division in a Service Lead role. This is a rare opportunity for a highly skilled individual to join Public Health within the largest Local Authority in the country and lead work that contributes to Birmingham being a great city that enables people to live healthy and active lives.

    The Public Health Division is engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of innovative work at a local, regional, national and international level. This role will be part of the Healthy Behaviours and Communities sub-Division comprising four teams (Food systems, Communities (including Creative Public Health), Inclusion health and Mental health and wellbeing. The sub-division works closely with a range of partners and academia to produce ground-breaking evidence and interventions to address health inequalities.

    The Role

    This is an exciting role for a motivated and engaging public health professional to lead on public mental health and suicide prevention in a large Public Health Division serving England's second city.

    Birmingham is a global city with a vision to create a place where everyone can make choices that empower them to be happy and healthy. You will lead projects and partnerships to improve mental wellbeing across our diverse city including co-ordination of the Creating a Mentally Healthy City Forum, strategy and action plan. You will be managing a team and influencing work to improve the health and wellbeing of groups who often face significant barriers to accessing mainstream services. You will work across the division and on cross-sub-division projects. You will also lead the development and implementation of the Suicide Prevention Strategy and action plan. You will be providing direction and working in partnership across the city to deliver the ambitions of the local Health and Wellbeing Board strategy.

    Skills & Experience

    This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who:

  • Has substantial experience of working with a wide range of partners and stakeholders in supporting Public Health outcomes, for example elected members and the commissioners and providers of health and care services;
  • Has strong public health knowledge and competencies and can evidence application in improving health outcomes
  • Is able to interact with the diverse communities of Birmingham and is passionate about reducing health inequalities;

  • Has experience of delivering performance and governance arrangements and developing and implementing improvement programmes in line with agreed priorities.
  • Understands the role that the health and wellbeing board and its sub-Forums can play to improve health and wellbeing.
  • Has demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Public Health priorities and relevant policy environment;
  • Has substantial experience of developing and coordinating the delivery of projects in complex and challenging environments.
  • Has subject matter expertise in the area of mental health and wellbeing and suicide prevention
  • Has experience in developing staff through both formal and informal opportunities.
