The opportunity


As a Portfolio Supervisor, you'll manage and ensure compliance with all investment activities to meet the Cadent business plan targets across the Network.

You'll be responsible for the assurance and management of projects to the required standard and supervisethe programme co-ordination of multiple connected projects.


Liaising with IPO, Cadent Strategic Partners, and sub-contractors to ensure that the project resources are identified, you'll act as an escalation route for the resolution of key issues / risks within the project.

You'll also manage the interface on behalfof O&M with the IPO team, and collate RIIO-GD3 risks and opportunities for O&M.


Key accountabilities of the Portfolio Manager will include:

  • Ensuring all statutory, legislative and internal governance processes are applied to project delivery throughout the life of the project
  • Ensuring project coordination with the various stakeholders takes place effectively and in accordance with procedures
  • Ensuring a programme of SHE Leadership Visits during the construction phase of the project is implemented and managed
  • Ensuring Cadent finance and investment management procedures are adhered to
  • Providing support with the development of the contract strategy and ensure suitable scopes of work are developed to meet investment requirement
  • Responsible for developing business cases (T002/Investment papers) to allow projects to be raised and initiated, working closely with Network Strategy, IPO and Finance
  • Coaching and developing team members, maintaining a high level of staff moral and motivation, ensuring compliance with company HR policies
  • Providing Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability and Process Safety leadership to set the direction and culture for the project
  • Responsible for ensuring a working environment which ensures the achievement of all safety and environmental legislation, engineering and customer standards for existing and future projects
  • Responsible for ensuring workloads are achieved, whilst reducing costs by effectively managing all resources and improving productivity, implementing and support Performance Improvement Plans where required
  • Accountable for the close out of Projects (T006) and be accountable to ensure projects are reforecast using the T005 process
  • Ensuring CDM duties are discharged and responsible for monitoring CDM compliance of all works
  • Accountable for tracking project spend against sanctioned budget and managing the portfolio of projects within the Network
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining project delivery governance process that monitors and assures the effective delivery of projects
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with management and control of new works, modifications and repair policies (e.g. G17 process) for project work scope.
  • Providing advice to the Area, E&I, and Support Teams on quality, process safety and compliance with policies, procedures and best practice


  • Overseeing commercial performance

  • P&L/Cost Base and support the commercial team as the Informed Buyer
  • Implementing all SHEQ project audit plans, ensure all mandatory audits are undertaken and report findings
  • Managing commercial discussions with suppliers within agreed commercial frameworks, use deviation processes for any nonapproved suppliers and manage contract variations
  • Reviewing Asset Health information, outline strategies to improve where required
  • Coordination of investment works delivery method options with the Head of Energy Operations and the Investment Planning Office team
  • Participating within the Network Operational Standby rota

What You'll Bring
We're looking for individuals who hold the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Engineering Degree/HNC/SNVQ/NVQ or equivalent operational experience
  • NEBOSH
  • SCO AE & CP
  • APM Foundation level
  • Professional registration would be desirable
  • Project Management discipline including knowledge of methods, processes and techniques to deliver to time, cost and quality measures
  • Delivery of engineering projects preferable within the gas industry
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and understanding of gas plant and systems
  • Good knowledge of Cadent Core Processes, relevant operational policies and procedures
  • Previous experience of Contract Management
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and tools
  • Understanding of Process Safety PrincipalsStrong understanding of HSE regulations relevant to role (e.g., PSSR, COMAH, PSR), codes of practic
