Assistant Director
Supervision (Insurance) Department
This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Assisting with the configuration of the Authority's ESG strategy
- Leading a small ESG team and acting as a centre of competence for ESG providing specialised knowledge in areas relevant to the financial sector, e.g. ESG risk landscape, climate risk disclosure, climate scenario/stress testing for the financial industry, quantitative and qualitative climate risk assessment, link to innovation in the areas such as green investment/underwriting
- Developing policy recommendations and guidelines for the integration of relevant risks, such as climate risk, in regulation and supervisory framework, contributing to surveys and publications on the topic
- Leading the Authority's ESG working group and ensuring effective knowledge sharing in the Authority
- Carrying out engagement and advocacy work across the financial sector in Bermuda, leading the preparation of thought leadership papers
- Leading the enhancements to the Group Supervisory framework and practices, including an effective groupwide supervision of Internationally Active Insurance Groups (IAIGs)
- Developing a 'best practice' approach to Supervisory Colleges and other forms of supervisory coordination arrangements
- Collaborating with International Affairs team on matters related to Group Supervision/supervisory colleges, including escalation of issues (and proposed solution thereof) arising from college meetings
- Monitoring of international developments related to Group Supervision and where applicable, proposing solutions to ensure the Authority frameworks continue to be credible and reflect international developments in this area
- Preparing positions and respresenting the Authority in international insurance regulatory associations, e.g. IAIS and Sustainable Insurance Forum; liaising with foreign insurance regulators with respect to international advocacy; and promoting an understanding of the Authority's insurance regulatory framework
- Supporting the Authority's thought leadership efforts on group supervision matters
The position requires a proven technical and business background.
Therefore, the post-holder must have:
- A Master's degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant related discipline (e.g. finance, economics, environmental management or business administration) from a recognised university. In addition, a professional designation(s) in a financerelated field would be preferred
- Minimum of ten (10) years' graduate experience, of which at least five (5) years should be at a senior level in the financial services business and/or working experience with a financial regulatory body
- Direct and indepth knowledge of Group supervision, climate change and ESG for the insurance sector; and proven experience in relevant areas such as climate risk management and governance, disclosure regimes, international policy developments, e.g. IAIS, and regulatory frameworks.
- Highly developed leadership and project management skills with experience building highperformance cultures and leading collaborative teams to produce desired outcomes
- Exceptional analytical, presentation and communication skills (written and oral)
