    Role: Reinsurance Pricing Actuary

    Location: London

    Position type: Full time, permanent

    The purpose of this role is to act as the interface for the MS Amlin London business with regards to Actuarial Pricing. The Pricing Actuary will use familiarity with business unit classes, markets and models to provide advice on pricing, model and management information development. The MS Amlin Reinsurance Pricing Actuary will be the first point of contact for underwriting clients to ensure continuity of service and class specific expertise.

    The MS Amlin Reinsurance Pricing Actuary will work closely with the rest of the MS Amlin Technical Pricing team and MS Amlin underwriters to ensure consistency of pricing models were possible, and that projects are delivered in a collaborative manner.

    The role holder will be on the MS Amlin Technical Pricing Leadership Team and will report into the Head of Technical Pricing. The role holder will provide technical pricing support and oversight across all reinsurance business written through the Lloyd's platform.

    About The Job

    What you'll spend your time doing:
    • Develop a strong working relationship with Underwriters;
    • Manage a team of four others to ensure technical pricing support is technically proficient, timely and co-ordinated. Support the development and progression of direct reports by setting clear and specific goals and managing the annual performance review cycle;
    • Provide case pricing support on large individual or unusual risks. Understand specific risk characteristics in order to suggest appropriate structures. Work closely with underwriters of all levels to ensure case pricing results are communicated clearly and key assumptions and drivers of uncertainty are thoroughly understood. Peer review the work of others in the team to ensure technical standards are consistently high;
    • Support the drive for continuous improvement in the available suite of pricing models through the annual model review cycle. Ensure models are developed and expanded in order to take advantage of new and varied data sources, both internal and external, and technical pricing methodologies. Ensure models are technically sound, sufficiently documented and well understood by users through the co-ordination of regular training. Additional ensure that the pricing models meet the MS Amlin Pricing policy and standards in respect of technical pricing and rate monitoring;
    • Oversee and support the underwriters and other actuarial team members with work on renewal rate movements;
    • Support the regular reviews of performance outcomes, as required. Challenge the conclusions where necessary and escalate issues to management;
    • Arrange and deliver underwriter training as required;
    • Work collaboratively with other MS Amlin functions, including Capital Modelling, Reserving, Underwriting Performance and Risk, to help drive performance excellence. Where appropriate work collaboratively with technical pricing teams across other MS&AD entities in order to share ideas and help solve complex problems; and
    • Support the reinsurance underwriters by providing considered inputs into business planning, capital model parameterisation and outwards reinsurance purchase exercises. Demonstrate a high degree of business acumen by helping to identify and plan for opportunities and threats which will develop in the marketplace.
    What you'll need:

    For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:
    • Actuarially Qualified or Nearly Qualified
    • Actuarial Pricing Expertise
    • Experience in London Reinsurance Market underwriting classes and environment
    • Advanced knowledge of Excel
    • Previous managerial or supervisory experience preferred
    • @Risk, R, and Python advantageous
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Good communication skills (both oral and written)
    • Ability to work well under pressure
    • Attention to detail and ability to self-check work
    • Proactive, flexible and adaptable.
