    Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Te Matau a M ā ui Hawke's Bay is are looking for an enthusiastic Stroke/Internal Medicine Physician to make a difference to patients and wh ā nau by providing high quality specialist care and driving clinical governance.

    The focus of the position will be the delivery of acute stroke care as well as acute and general medicine care on a ward-based team in our general medical service.

    This exciting position will give you the opportunity provide clinical leadership to the Stroke service with the support of dual trained Geriatricians/Internal Medicine Physicians, Stroke CNS and dynamic ward leadership team, passionate nursing and allied health staff with expertise in stroke, and Geriatricians on our rehabilitation ward (AT&R).

    We have strong links with our tertiary centre, Wellington Regional Hospital, who provide 24 hour support via Telemedicine for hyper-acute stroke and make decisions for thrombolysis and clot retrieval.

    The applicant will have a broad range of skills and be comfortable dealing with the care of undifferentiated presentations to acute medicine.

    They will be able to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

    Although the main focus will be ward based care of acute presentations, time for out-patient clinics and service development/innovation will be included.

    The successful applicant should have FRACP and be registered (or is eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

    Hawke's Bay has a diverse population of 162,000 people in both urban and remote rural areas.

    Services are primarily provided at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Hastings which has a 400 bed capacity - one of the largest provincial hospitals in New Zealand.
