    The Rent Service manage the collection of £275 million housing rents and also have responsibility for the recovery of former tenancy debt and Housing Benefit Overpayments for Local Authority tenants. Our purpose is to maximise the collection of rent by providing our tenants with advice and assistance in order to prevent rent debt.

    We are recruiting a senior manager to assist with the operational management of the Rent Service, primarily on the projects and development side of the business. Maximising income collection into the Housing Revenue Account through the efficient collection of rent has never been more important to a Local Authority. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic person with drive, resourcefulness and an eye for innovation to assist the Head of Income Collection in meeting the many challenges that lie ahead for the country's largest Local Authority.

    This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience of working in Housing, particularly rent collection. You will oversee a team of officers, assisted by a management team to ensure that the Council's income from rent is maximised for the benefit of the citizens of Birmingham.

    The successful applicant will manage a diverse operation and will be expected to bring experience as well as new ideas and approaches to rental collection.

    Experience and Skills. The successful candidate will have:

  • management experience in collection of rent;
  • knowledge of the factors affecting rent collection;
  • ability to implement successful change strategies;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of stakeholders;
  • an appetite for change, being inquisitive and willing to drive new ways of working;
  • ability to contribute to wider Council strategies;
  • exceptional levels of customer service.
    You will largely work from home/remotely, however the post holder would have the opportunity to work from Birmingham City Council buildings and would need to attend meetings in person when required.
