Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Associate Principal Scientist to join our Protein &

Cellular Sciences Team:

You will join a small team dedicated to acquisition and production of high-quality recombinant protein material to facilitate the Bicycle discovery platform.


Key responsibilities

  • Support multiple Discovery campaigns by acting as key point of contact for stakeholders, understand project requirements, provide scientific guidance on proteinrelated matters
  • Research target biology and identify necessary reagents to progress programs
  • Design, express, and purify recombinant proteins using eukaryotic & prokaryotic systems
  • Organise and direct work with CROs as appropriate to diversify/increase throughput
  • Drive scientific excellence in the team by championing process improvements, help the team imbed best practice, review data generated by the team and develop SOPs as needed
  • Management of our protein quality control process including summarising your own and other peoples BLI, mass spectrometry, SDS-PAGE & SEC-MALS data.
  • Collaborate with our informatics team to further integration of protein quality control data into electronic lab notebooks and relevant reporting systems, working with the database manager to add or improve functionality where necessary, automate processes where possible and facilitate data sharing across functions
  • Independently problemsolve, troubleshoot, and identify next steps and solutions
  • Present interpreted data and conclusions of independently conducted research effectively in oral or written form to internal team and external partners, including possible next steps to drive projects forward
  • Interact and communicate efficiently in a collaborative environment involving crossfunctional teams of biologists and chemists
  • Organise, plan and coordinate work with broader protein sciences team
Qualifications*Essential:
  • Relevant academic or industry experience with a focus on protein science
  • Extensive experience in a biotech or industrial environment
  • Comprehensive understanding of molecular biology and protein production from eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems including antibody production
  • Extensive practical experience in protein purification with AKTA systems including affinity chromatography, HIC, IEX, and SEC
  • Handson experience of a range of biophysical and/or biochemical assay techniques to characterise protein function, including BLI, SPR and SEC-MALS
  • Experience managing projects or processes
  • Ability to prioritise and adapt work to facilitate delivery to timelines
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with data presenting & reporting
  • Diligent in documenting work and adherent to data integrity requirements

Desirable:


  • A PhD in Biochemistry with a focus on protein science
  • Experience in DNA assembly methods
  • An understanding of structural biology
  • Ability to interpret mass spectrometry data
  • An understanding of phage display or other display technologies
  • Prior experience of line management (if line management is desired)
