Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) in Electronic Engineering and Signal Processing with a particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence for Medical Applications.


About you


The successful applicant will be responsible for a number of work packages, including but not limited to refinement of several machine learning algorithms for differentiating between breasts with and without lesions; microwave imaging algorithms optimization; data-processing; deep leaning; development of models and related firmware for trial execution; gathering of user requirements and presenting results to industrial, research stakeholders and non-experts.


Exciting work you will do

The project titled "MammoScreen:

Innovative and safe microwave-based imaging technology to make breast cancer screening more accurate, inclusive, and female-friendly" will be carried out within an international, multidisciplinary consortium, which comprises LSBU plus: a Research Foundation (Toscana Life Sciences, Italy), two SMEs (UBT srl, Italy and ELAROS, UK), one public Health Institution (Castilla - La Mancha Healthcare Services, Spain), and a patient association (EVITA, Portugal), and one Italian University (IMT Lucca).


The skills and experience you will need to be successful


The successful applicant will join a team of different skill sets (radiofrequency engineers, microwave imaging experts, AI and data processing experts, mechatronics, radiologists, medical doctors, patients' association representatives) to refine several machine learning algorithms and create an intelligent classification system towards supporting clinicians to differentiate between breasts with and without lesions (highlighting suspicious malignancy), using microwave imaging data.


Details about the role


This full-time 4-year post is part of a 48-month prestigious EU project granted in the context of HORIZON-MISS-2021-CANCER-02-01 "Develop new methods and technologies for cancer screening and early detection".


Please note that the University is operating a hybrid working model which means a mix of working on site and from home, confirmation of days worked on campus are arranged with the line manager.
