2 Days Central London, 3 Days Home

Basic Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience with excellent benefits

Our client a consumer finance-based membership body is looking for a Manager Policy for their offices in London with hybrid working.


The Role of Manager Policy

Key Responsibilities


Proactively identify policy development opportunities in Government policy, taxation and regulation, using expertise in policy areas or arenas to develop positions substantiated with robust and relevant evidence.

Represent the views of members at meetings with outside bodies, e.g. Government, professional bodies, other trade associations, charities and civil society organisations etc. Typically chair on lead meetings with outside bodies, possibly with the assistanceof practitioners from members. Speak at, or chair, seminars on areas of responsibility, pro-actively seeking speaking opportunities to represent the sector.

Project management and management of key stakeholders


Respond to member and other queries on areas of responsibility, anticipating wider implications and further needs and drafting guidance accordingly.

Represent the views of members in writing, e.g., responses to consultation papers, briefing to officials in Government Departments, correspondence. Typically written work drafted by postholder and views invited from practitioners on proposed response.

Co-ordinate Panel/Committee meetings, prepare agenda papers, chair meetings, prepare minutes and undertake follow-up action.


Keep abreast of current developments on areas of responsibility, and the markets of members generally to anticipate future areas of work.


The Person

Essential
Ability to analyse policy issues and develop positions that are substantiated with evidence

Ability to proactively take prime responsibility for particular areas of policy work

Excellent communication and presentation skills, writing in a clear and concise manner

Ability to deal with senior representatives of outside bodies and members

Good organisation skills, including prioritisation of own workload

Motivational and team work skills

Chairing (and/or acting as secretary) at meetings

Need to manage time effectively with the ability to work to strict deadlines


Desirable
Familiarity with financial services, policy development, financial inclusion or a trade body desirable.
