    Job summaryConsultant in Emergency Surgery with an interest in Bariatric SurgeryThese is a 10 PA substantive post (8 DCC, 2 SPA) mainly based at St Marys Hospital, but may require occasional work at the other main sites of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

    The Department of General Surgery wishes to appoint a substantive Consultant in Emergency Surgery with subspecialty interest in bariatric surgery.

    The appointee will provide emergency on-call commitments on a 1:8 basis at St Mary's Hospital depending on the needs of the department.

    The post will support the development of effective emergency surgical pathways, in particular, to help the trust maintain its four hour wait targets and ambulatory care pathways.

    Applicants require general, benign upper GI and bariatric competencies, in both elective and emergency settings. A post-CCT fellowship and consultant-level experience in bariatric and benign upper GI surgery is essential.
    It is essential that experience working in a major trauma centre and managing code reds.

    The successful candidate will join a recognised centre of excellence for bariatric surgery (encompassing Tier 4 and 5 pathways) providing a full training programme and a tertiary referral service for complex upper GI and bariatric surgeryMain duties of the jobThis is a 10 PA substantive post (8 DCC, 2 SPA) mainly based at St Marys Hospital, but will require work at the other main sites of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

    The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
    To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
    To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
    To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
