About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Berrens group in the Department of Paediatrics as our Senior Research Associate.
You will play an important role in the contribution of understanding the role of Transposable element in cell fate decision.
You will be responsible for developing and running a project to develop novel tools to address the role of locus-specific transposable element expression using mouse embryonic stem cells with advanced CRISPR based targeting technologies.
You will be working in a growing department within the Medical Sciences Division.The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology.
The Berrens group under the lead of Rebecca Berrens conducts research in Transposable elements and successfully developed a novel single cell long read RNA-sequencing method to study Transposable elements in cell fate choices.
This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term contract initially for August 2024 for 8 years with the possibility to extend provided further external funding is available.
About you
You will have a Hold a DPhil Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Genetics, supplemented by relevant post-qualification with experience in molecular and cellular biology focusing on gene regulation and epigenetics.
You will possess research skills with the ability to manage your own project and extensive supervision skills to support the Berrens lab and their DPhil students.
You will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills with all level of staff staff and an ability to operate effectively in a demanding research environment.
