What is the Supply Chain Industrial Placement Programme?

Join our Supply Chain Industrial Placement programme and you'll contribute to EDF's ambition to help Britain achieve Net Zero, by helping us drive positive social and environmental change throughout our supply chain.

This placement will be based at either Hinkley Point C, Gloucester Business Park or Sizewell B (Suffolk). The placement will either be working with our HPC plant, or Nuclear Generation team.

At our HPC plant we are building the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes, 7% of the country's total electricity needs helping Britain achieve net-zero.

The Nuclear New Build Supply Chain Directorate team is at the core of supporting the delivery of the power station, currently under construction in Somerset.

The EDF Nuclear Supply Chain team focusses on the safe operation and commercial interest of our nuclear generation and defueling missions.

The function, split across a central office in Gloucester and the eight nuclear power stations, is integral in ensuring we secure and contract the right skills and components to support our eight nuclear power stations.

We ensure the effective contracting and safe and effective working of up to 1,000 additional employees during critical planned maintenance outages.

Training, development and support for you:

Over this 12-month programme, you'll gain an understanding of the operation of a large energy company, the way a business works, the skills required to be successful in a professional career and gain a strong insight into commercial and supply chain management.

The key role of the Supply Chain teams are to:

  • Support the Project Delivery Teams in the robust management of contracts and the integration of the Hinkley Point C entire contract portfolio by balancing collaboration and commercial tensions ensuring the project is delivered successfully;
  • Perform Client Function duties
  • Insight and Reporting, Governance and Assurance, Procurement of Contracts, Strategic Intervention, Supplier Relationship and Contract Management, Stakeholder Management and Shareholder engagement.
  • Organise and attend important supplier conferences, supporting the development of supply chain strategies, and actively participating in tendering, negotiating, and placing contracts while learning the value of governance arrangements.
  • Focus on the safe operation and commercial interests of our nuclear generation and defueling missions.

    The function, split across a central office in Gloucester and the eight nuclear power stations, is integral in ensuring we secure and contract the right skills and components to support our eight nuclear power stations.

For an idea of the type of work you could do, recent students have supported the development of Supply Chain's data strategy, created automated reporting using PowerBI to support Executive and Board reporting, enhanced insight in Supply Relationship Management, supported with Regulatory engagement and helped deliver strategic and people updates.

You'll also get great exposure to the whole team, a good understanding of the procurement and contract management process, managing complex contractual interfaces, and the opportunity to network and develop stakeholder management and commercial and contractual skills.
